PPG Event up-date - THIS WEEKEND!

A last minute update:

The weather is looking great for the weekend. Stew and Shane are heading down on Thursday night ready to check out the airology with an early flight on Friday. I will be going down on Friday morning. Shane's dad is coming down to drive retrieve for us but if you know of anyone else who can drive around picking up the pieces and taking photos then invite them along. It should be quite entertaining just in the take-off paddock.

We also have some prizes donated by Wings and Waves so I thought we could have some fun competition to decide who gets them.

Here are a few ideas we can choose from depending on what the weather does and what seems like the most fun for most people.

  • Take off. Yes I know we can all do that but how about scoring the number of attempts, or failed attempts? Landing on a target.
  • Landing on a target power off from 300ft.
  • Touch and go landing.
  • Flour bombing. On a target, not each other.
  • Kite war. Who can keep it up the longest with their feet still on the ground?
  • Economy race. Fly some laps and see who used the least fuel. What wing and motor combination is the best for covering km?
  • Cross country. Estimate exactly how long you will take to fly from A to B, take a photo and fly back to A. Could be a real lottery.
  • Balloon bursting. Haven’t quite figured out how yet but should be fun trying.

Or if we feel confident how about more advanced “competition tasks” like the cloverleaf, foot dragging, or beam walks? Maybe next time.

I’m sure there are more we will think up over the weekend.

You will also have the opportunity to test-fly a GIN Airflex canopy.

Don’t forget to have your NZHGPA membership up to date and if you don’t yet have a PPG rating don’t let it stop you coming. Just let me know so I can bring the forms.

Regards, Evan.
