full monty lesson - stage 1 and 2 in one

This is a full-on, very effective lesson for those who are pretty serious about getting into the sport of kite boarding, have previous experience handling kites or wind surfing and / or wake boarding or snow boarding and are pretty fit.

what you will do

You will start with the basics, safety instructions, kite set up etc to make sure nothing essential is left out.

We then go over some basic kite handling skills with a small kite and will soon progress to kite practice in the water.

As soon as possible, you will practice body dragging downwind, then to either side. This prepares you for trying to get onto the board.

How far you get, depends on your fitness, your previous experience related to kite surfing.

Existing skills with kites or paragliders, kites and boards, such as wake boards, surf or snowboards, will make it easier. We will spend well over 2 hrs in the water. The instructor will customise the lesson exactly to your level of skill and your speed of progression, which results in maximum benefit to you. Be prepared to be tired at the end of this lesson!

We teach you all the techniques required to get boarding.

We supply the board, kites from 2-16sqm to suit the conditions, the harness, the instructor for all lessons.

locations

We use different kiting and teaching sites around Auckland.

Every day, we pick the ideal site according to the wind and weather conditions on the day to give you the best and safest experience. We ultimately decide on the site and times to meet at 9.30am in the morning.

Our favourite teaching beaches are Shoal Bay on the North Shore in Bayswater for the prevailing SW wind and Cheltenham beach for all easterly directions.  These beaches offer great safe teaching, large shallow areas and the good conditions.

We also go to Point Chev if the wind is the from the W or NW or sometimes to Shakespear Park if it is southerly.

Be flexible to make the most out of your day! Bring some lunch and drink if case we hang around for good conditions.
